Maura has made supporting veterans a top priority. She appointed the state’s first ever cabinet-level Veteran’s Services Secretary and signed the HERO Act, the most comprehensive veterans’ legislation in the state in decades, that expands benefits and improves services for veterans across Massachusetts. The law increases financial support for disabled veterans and Gold Star families, improves access to mental health care, and makes it easier for veterans to get the benefits they’ve earned.
She has transformed our veterans homes to make sure our veterans get the care and service they deserve.
She also launched the End Veteran Homelessness campaign to dedicate $13 million to support veteran housing across the state. This coordinated effort has housed more than 1000 veterans, reduced veteran homelessness by more than 25%, strengthened partnerships with local governments and nonprofit providers, and increased access to supportive services and community outreach.
