Maura has focused on lowering energy costs and holding utility companies accountable for rate hikes through her Energy Affordability Agenda, which is delivering $220 million in immediate cost savings and will save Massachusetts residents $6 billion over the next five years. She took it a step further, and filed energy affordability legislation to get charges off bills and save ratepayers $13 billion. Maura also launched the Energy Savings Finder, a new digital tool to help lower energy bills, boost energy efficiency, and upgrade home appliances. She secured bill credits for every residential Eversource, National Grid and Unitil customer and unveiled new money saving rates and DPU reviews to bring down costs for working and middle-class families. She has opposed rate increases proposed by the big utility companies.
The Healey-Driscoll administration has continued to work towards a more affordable and effective energy future, harnessing solar to save $300 million a year, laying the groundwork for nuclear and fusion energy, and clearing the way for hydropower to provide 20% of our electricity.
