Maura has made public safety a top priority by strengthening partnerships between state and local law enforcement and investing in programs that reduce crime and support communities. Under her leadership, Massachusetts has awarded millions of dollars in grants that help local police departments, prosecutors, and community groups work together to target violent crime, illegal guns, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. Through Commonwealth Project Safe Neighborhoods, these efforts led to nearly 500 arrests, the removal of more than 65 illegal firearms, and the seizure of drugs and illegal proceeds.
She also brought together state and local law enforcement through statewide public safety roundtables focused on collaboration and prevention. Her administration also cracked down on illegal street takeovers and expanded safety support for campuses, houses of worship, and nonprofits.
She also signed legislation providing better disability and retirement benefits for injured state police officers.
