Worcester, MA — Today, a bevy of Worcester leaders, including Mayor Joseph Petty, Former Mayor Joe O’Brien, and legislative leaders that represent Worcester endorsed Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll for reelection.
“Governor Healey has been a great partner for Worcester on Beacon Hill, and her leadership has been critical to our city’s success,” said Mayor Joe Petty. “From making the investments we need in housing, infrastructure, and education to fuel the future of our city to creating new job opportunities in emerging sectors through her leadership on the Mass Leads Act, Governor Healey continues to deliver results for the people of our Commonwealth. I’m proud to endorse Governor Healey and Lt. Governor Driscoll for reelection, and I look forward to working together to lower costs and build on these successes in their next second term.”
“I’ve watched Worcester’s local economy grow under Governor Healey’s administration and can attest to her impact throughout our city,” said Former Mayor Joe O’Brien. “I wholeheartedly support Governor Healey and Lt. Governor Driscoll’s ticket for reelection and look forward to all they accomplish for our city and state.”
“Worcester has seen tremendous economic growth these past few years, and I attribute that to our city’s close partnership with Governor Healey and Lt. Governor Driscoll,” said State Representative Jim O’Day, who represents the 14th Worcester District where today’s endorsement event took place. “I proudly support the team’s reelection campaign and look forward to accomplishing even more for our city.”
“These local leaders have been phenomenal partners in building a brighter future for Worcester, and for our entire state,” said Governor Maura Healey. “Massachusetts could not lead the way without investments in our gateway cities, like Worcester, which provide regional hubs for opportunity and growth.”
“Alongside municipal leadership, we’ve delivered results for the people of Worcester. We’ve been able to bring down costs and promote economic growth because of the steadfast partners we have throughout the city,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “We’re grateful for the continued support of local leaders in Worcester and look forward to working together to grow the local economy.”
The full list of endorsers includes Mayor Joseph Petty, Former Mayor Joe O’Brien, State Senators Robyn Kennedy and Michael Moore, State Representatives John Mahoney, Jim O’Day, Mary Keefe, Daniel Donahue, David LeBoeuf, and Governor’s Councillor Paul DePalo.
These endorsements follow a meeting Governor Healey and Lt Governor Driscoll held with Worcester-area business leaders, local legislators, and Mayor Petty to discuss how state and local leaders can utilize bio-manufacturing and research hubs like Worcester and their proposed $400 million in state funding to boost research and innovation under the DRIVE Initiative to push Massachusetts’ economic competitive edge even further.
During the roundtable, Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll touted investments made in Worcester in their first term, including $100 million towards building affordable and market rate housing units, $25 million to redevelop the historic Worcester Memorial Auditorium, and an $8 million grant to build a new 1 million square-foot manufacturing facility in the city, which would create over a thousand new jobs.
