Springfield, MA — Today, Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll made a campaign stop in Springfield with members of its legislative delegation to hold a small business roundtable, hearing from local business owners about the challenges they face and highlighting the work of the Healey-Driscoll administration to promote economic growth and support business development for Springfield and the region as a whole. The roundtable also included members of the local Latino business community.
Following the roundtable, State Representative Carlos Gonzalez and State Senator Adam Gomez endorsed Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll’s campaign for reelection.
“Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll have been champions for workforce development in Springfield and have made major investments to public transportation to connect our region with the rest of Massachusetts through the West-East Rail,” said Senator Adam Gomez. “Making sure we have reliable, responsible partners at the very top is why I’m excited to support the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, so we can continue to protect our immigrant communities and support our small businesses.”
“When it comes to public safety, making education more accessible through free community college for residents and Early College programs, and promoting economic opportunity for our area, particularly for communities of color, we couldn’t ask for better partners than the Governor and Lieutenant Governor,” said Representative Carlos Gonzalez. “I’m proud to support them in their reelection, and excited to work together to set up our region for success in the years to come.”
“Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll are working hard for Springfield, especially when it comes to improving access to quality education and building more homes to improve access to housing in our state,” said Representative Orlando Ramos. “We need strong leadership on Beacon Hill, and we will continue our work so we can make a real difference in the lives of working families.”
“We’ve been proud to partner with Springfield leaders over the past three years to lower costs, create good jobs, upgrade public transportation and build more housing across Western Mass,” said Governor Maura Healey. “We know there is a lot more work to be done, and I’m honored to have the support of the leaders of Springfield as we continue building on this progress and delivering for the people of Springfield.”
“As a former Mayor, I know how important it is to have partners at the state level who are investing the necessary dollars and time into helping our cities and towns grow,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “We’re thrilled to have the backing for our reelection campaign of these great leaders from Springfield, and we are committed to being that strong state partner business owners need to accelerate growth, build and sustain a skilled workforce, and give them the tools they need to be successful.”
This latest show of support from Representative Carlos Gonzalez comes after the endorsement of various Western Mass leaders, including Mayor Domenic Sarno, Mayor Joshua Garcia, Mayor Peter Marchetti, Mayor Jennifer Macksey, Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra, Mayor Salem Derby, Mayor John Vieau, State Senators Joanne Comerford, Adam Gomez, and Paul Mark, State Representatives Patricia Duffy, John Barrett III, Tricia Farley-Bouvier, Mindy Domb, Aaron L. Saunders, Jacob Oliveira, Orlando Ramos, Bud Williams, Lindsay Sabadosa, Brian Ashe, and Leigh Davis, and Governor’s Councilor Tara Jacobs.
The Healey-Driscoll administration is making big investments to boost Springfield as a regional economic hub, including grants and investments for boosting local businesses and manufacturing initiatives, new Early College partnerships funded by the state to help retain local and young talent, and created tax incentives for local businesses. They’ve also made the Massachusetts’ Latino communities a priority, establishing the Governor’s Council on Latino Empowerment, providing targeted support for Latino-owned businesses, and protecting immigrant communities from aggressive ICE operations by the Trump administration.
In addition to their work for small businesses and the Latino community, the Healey-Driscoll administration is building thousands of new homes in the Springfield area through the Affordable Homes Act, working to solidify the city as a major transportation hub for the region by securing over $140 million in federal funding to advance West-East Rail and over $35 million for infrastructure upgrades at Union Station, and working to reduce utility costs for homes and businesses.
