Springfield, Massachusetts — Today, Governor Healey attended the annual Massachusetts Building Trades Union Convention (MBTU) and spoke about how her administration is creating thousands of new jobs, lowering costs and making life easier with critical infrastructure and energy investments, and promoting new career pathways for Bay Staters. During the conference, the MBTU officially announced their endorsement of Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll’s campaign for reelection.
Throughout their first term, Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll have invested in infrastructure across the state. The governor emphasized the importance of her ongoing partnership with union labor to ensure workers earn fair wages and benefits. Despite unprecedented federal funding cuts by President Donald Trump, Governor Healey stood up for union jobs and laborers, making sure key projects could continue.
Just last year, Governor Healey signed an Executive Order to promote the use of project labor agreements (PLAs) by state agencies for large public works projects. Earlier this month, she announced the PLA for the North Station Draw One Bridge Replacement Project, which will create more than 15,600 direct and indirect jobs across Massachusetts. PLAs are collective bargaining agreements that establish terms and conditions of employment for all involved in a construction project, ensuring quality, good-paying jobs.
Governor Healey has several legislative initiatives that would bolster job growth in the building trades. Her BRIGHT Act would modernize higher education campuses and create 20,000 construction-related jobs. And her DRIVE Initiative would invest in Massachusetts’ innovation economy and increase job creation across sectors, including union jobs.
Governor Healey has defended Massachusetts offshore wind industry and the thousands of good construction jobs that support it from constant attacks by the Trump Administration.
Governor Healey also created a Public Construction Advisory Council to identify barriers to participation on public construction projects and signed an Executive Order to increase participation of women and underrepresented groups in the field.
“Maura Healey has stood up for the 75,000 men and women of Massachusetts Building Trades Unions in many ways, over many years, as both AG and as Governor,” said Massachusetts Building Trades Union President Frank Callahan. “She has not only created jobs in our industry but made sure they are union jobs with strong middle-class wages and benefits. Like our members Maura Healey knows what it takes to get the job done and get it done right.”
“Throughout my first term, I’ve been grateful to partner with the Massachusetts Building Trades Union to deliver good jobs with fair wages and safer job site conditions for working people across our state,” said Governor Maura Healey. “I’m proud of the work we’ve been able to accomplish together, including promoting the use of project labor agreements and moving infrastructure projects forward across our state that will make life better for everyone. With so much at stake for the future of Massachusetts, I’m honored to have the Building Trades standing with me in this race.”
“As we work to build more housing, improve infrastructure across our cities and towns, and boost our economy, our friends in labor are crucial to building the workforce we need to get the job done and ensure Massachusetts is a place where everyone can succeed,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “We are excited to earn another term this November and continue delivering for Bay Staters with the Massachusetts Building Trades.”
