Boston, MA— On Friday, Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll received the endorsement of The Massachusetts American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). The AFL-CIO, which represents nearly 500,000 workers, voted Friday to endorse the pair citing their diligence and efforts to create thousands of new jobs, lower costs, and promote new career pathways for Bay Staters. This endorsement marks Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll’s 29th labor endorsement of their reelection campaign so far.
Over the past three years, Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll have invested in infrastructure across the state, including a number of legislative efforts to bolster job growth in the building trades. Her BRIGHT Act would modernize higher education campuses and create 20,000 construction-related jobs. And her DRIVE Initiative would invest in Massachusetts’ innovation economy and increase job creation across sectors. Governor Healey has also focused on lowering costs that impact working families every day – building more homes and supporting first-time homebuyers, fighting utility rate increases, and capping health care deductibles.
Just last year, Governor Healey signed an Executive Order to promote the use of project labor agreements (PLAs) by state agencies for all major public works projects. PLAs are collective bargaining agreements that establish terms and conditions of employment for all involved in a construction project, ensuring quality, good-paying jobs.
